Discontinued T-Lock Shingles
Although T-lock shingles were widely used in Colorado, today most insurance companies are willing to replace them because they have been largely discontinued since about 2005. You see, over time T-lock shingles became thinner and less effective. Eventually, they were phased out by manufacturers.
Because T-Lock shingles have been discontinued and the products can no longer be found in supply stores, most insurance companies will pay for an entire new roof, even if only one shingle is damaged. This is good news for homeowners, as they can get a new roof for little to no out of pocket cost! On the other hand, it is extremely difficult to get new insurance on a house that has these shingles and hard to keep insured, as many insurance companies are requiring homeowner’s to get new roofs.
